Offer other options besides PeduliLindungi: House Speaker app

Whatever new system or tool will be used later, the government must ensure that the tool containing the personal data of citizens is leak-proof.
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Speaker of the House of Representatives Puan Maharani highlighted the importance of the government providing other options to the public in addition to the PeduliLindungi app.
“Therefore, providing other options in addition to the PeduliLindungi application is important for the government to guarantee the rights of citizens,” said the Speaker of the Chamber in Jakarta on Monday.
Maharani praised the government’s plan not to make PeduliLindungi the only control app for accessing public spaces or media.
Other protocols for citizenship, such as the submission of vaccine certificates and COVID-19 test results, should be implemented as soon as possible, as they are important, he emphasized.
“Every citizen, who has a sophisticated or less sophisticated smartphone, or even who does not have a ‘smartphone’, must have the same access rights to public spaces and transportation,” he said.
Maharani called for top priority to be given to the options that the government provides, in addition to the PeduliLindung app that ensures the protection of citizens’ personal data.
This is because all mechanisms must use the unique identity number as the main data, he said.
“Whatever new system or tool will be used later, the government must ensure that the tool containing the personal data of citizens is leak-proof,” Maharani emphasized.
The President of the Chamber needs this guarantee, so that no one is harmed by the leakage of their personal data.
Maharani considered the guarantee of personal data protection important, as the government had involved the private sector to integrate the PeduliLindungi application system with other private application systems.
“Collaboration with the private sector in the form of systems integration must have clear rules, so that citizens’ personal data is duly protected and does not fall into irresponsible hands, such as illegal online loans, etc.”, he emphasized.
Maharani reminded all parties, such as the government and the private sector, to pay particular attention to the protection of citizens’ personal data, while the House of Representatives and the government discussed the Personal Data Protection Bill.
The Speaker of the Chamber urged the government and the private sector to educate the public on the protection of personal data. This action should be taken so that people have a good understanding of the necessary steps to be taken in the event of leakage or misuse of their personal data.
